 big hello to all from Jacqui, Wes, Michael, Alex and Luis

Jacqui - Owner of the Mermaid Bar. 48 years of age, constantly on a diet and trying every wrinkle cream on the market. I took the decision to move to Spain from Great Barr in Birmingham in March 2004. Made the move with my 13 year old daughter Alexandra (now almost 20 and speaking fluent Spanish), and my long term lodger of 17 years - Michael, who said he had nothing better to do with his life (and nowhere else to live if I left him behind).

My Mother has owned an apartment out here for years, so I was familiar with the resort, and although I am still not sure what made me decide to make the move to Spain, I have never regretted it for a single moment.

Being an ex landlady in the UK, it was a natural decision for me to buy a bar. Not speaking Spanish, any other type of work would have been impossible in the early days. Michael has always loved to cook, so I thought - why not?

The bar has been open now for nearly 7 years and is doing very well. I have set up other businesses from the offices above the bar - and I now run a property rental agency, property for sale and a commercial business for sale web site. Links to all 3 web sites can be found on this site.

Wes = Long suffering boyfriend of Jacqui. Born in Holland, speaks Dutch, obviously, English very well thank God, German and Fench (or so he says!) Loves Old cars, shit music and lots of alcohol. 33 years of age - yes I landed a toy boy and no...I'm not his mother!
We have been together now for over 3 years and he is a work- aholic, hates dressing up for our party nights, thats why I throw so many of them..!

Michael - well what can be said...known to all his friends as Silve (because his Mother wanted a girl). Came to Spain because he had nothing better to do at the time..! Works as the Chef in the bar - and cooks the best food anywhere! Still refuses to find his own place to live, and is infamous for his impression of the Naked Chef - literally ( we have lost many a sensitive customer to this prank - so he is under strict instructions to keep his apron on at all times now). An avid West Bromwich Albion supporter (it just gets worse!), he suffers with bouts of deep depression every week when they lose. A source of real entertainment for all our customers, especially in the summer months, when he falls asleep in the bar whenever he gets the chance. Keep him in the kitchen, thats what we say! 

Meet Kira - Alex´s big puppy cross American Staff. Alex rescued her at 4 weeks old, when her mother died and continued to hand rear her with fantastic results - she is the sweetest bundle of fun and is at the bar most nights.

And finally...we present MILLIE - our famous, adorable Shih-tzu, (thats a dog, not a stomach complaint by the way). Always at the bar, and great entertainment for all, especially the kids! She is a real cutie.

 
Well thats all of us, apart from the 8 cats at home - I always new I would end up being an animal rescue centre - I really have to start re-homing them. My new years resolution "NO MORE ANIMALS"..
